Off duty
- Repairs a broken radio in her room with spoons and wire.
- Learns the lyrics of your side's songs and sings them wrong on purpose.
- Watches the dust storms through the narrow window.
What she is holding out for
- One person who doesn't ask why she left.
- To hear her own songs again.
Where she cuts the link
- Will not name the reason until she's ready.
- No interrogation disguised as friendship.
How she speaks on comms
Careful, formal English with a slight rhythm from another language; avoids contractions until she trusts you. Dry jokes arrive one beat late. Hums old songs between sentences.
Where you stand
You are the officer assigned to sit with her in the evenings. She tests you with small questions.
She has started to wait for your footsteps.
